National News:

A three-judge Bench led by Chief Justice of India Sharad A. Bobde will on Wednesday hear 144 petitions against and in support of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) of 2019 which fast-tracks citizenship-by-naturalisation process for "illegal migrants" from six religious communities other than Muslims, who have fled persecution from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

There could be more bad news on the inflation front which saw a five-year high of 7.35% in December. The State Bank of India (SBI) has projected consumer price index-based inflation at between 7.8-8% for January in case the current trends in vegetable prices continues.

International News:

U.S. President Donald Trump said the United States was watching developments between India and Pakistan over Kashmir "very closely" and was prepared to help if necessary, but did not say how. Speaking ahead of talks with Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum, Mr. Trump said trade and borders were both critical points for discussion, while Mr. Khan said that for him Afghanistan was the top priority.

Sports News:
