National News:

India is among the few countries in the world where the mortality under-5 years of girls, exceeded that of boys, according to the 'Levels and Trends in Child Mortality' report by the United Nations (UN) inter-agency group for child mortality. The global report states that in 2018 fewer countries showed gender disparities in child mortality, and across the world, on average, boys are expected to have a higher probability of dying before reaching age-5 than girls. But this trend was not reflected in India.

Much to the embarrassment of TTD and ruling YSR Congress party, SVBC chairman R Prudhviraj was caught on an alleged sleazy talk with a woman employee, the audio of which went viral on social media and aired repeatedly on TV channels on Sunday. Following the controversial episode, TTD chairman YV Subba Reddy on the directions of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy asked him to quit his post. Subsequently on Sunday evening, Prudhviraj forwarded his resignation letter to Subba Reddy.

This week is set to be action-packed as the high-level task force on infrastructure and the inter-ministerial group (IMG) on Air India disinvestment are scheduled to hold their crucial meetings.The task force headed by Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) Secretary with CEO (NITI Aayog), Secretary (Expenditure), Secretary of the Administrative Ministries, and Additional Secretary (Investments), DEA as members would hold its final meeting on Monday and decide projects worth nearly Rs 3 lakh crore to be taken up under National Infrastructure Pipeline (NIP).

International News:

Iran's only woman Olympic medalist said she defected from the Islamic Republic and fled to the Netherlands in an online letter that describes herself as "one of the millions of oppressed women in Iran." Taekwondo athlete Kimia Alizadeh accused Iranian officials of sexism and mistreatment.

Sports News:

Rohit Sharma returned to the T20 squad while Sanju Samson was dropped for the five-match series in New Zealand, starting January 24, according to a BCCI release. The Mumbai opener was rested for the T20I series against Sri Lanka which the hosts won 2-0. The release added that Vijay Shankar has been included in the India-A squad for the New Zealand tour since Hardik Pandya's rehabilitation process is taking longer than expected.
